THE HISTORY OF CHESS. LECTURE BY HELGI ÓLAFSSON GRANDMASTER IN CHESS. KJARVALSSTAÐIR SUNDAY, MARCH 29 AT 3 PM
Helgi Ólafsson, Grandmaster of chess gives a lecture on the history of art in connection with the exhibition 32 Pieces – The Art of Chess at Kjarvalsstaðir. Afterwards AlamaDís Kristinsdóttir, project manager at the museum offers a guided tour through the exhibition.
In his lecture Ólafsson discusses Arabic chess from the year 1000, the book Schachnovelle by Stefan Sweig and several chess games in the writings of the Icelandic Nobel Prize winner Halldór Laxness. The event is in collaboration with the Reykjavik Chess Academy and the Icelandic Chess Federation
