Arresting Images: Impolitic Art and Unexpected Reactions. Hafnarhús, Thursday 21 January 8 p.m.
Dr. Steven C. Dubin, Columbia University gives the lecture Arresting Images: Impolitic Art and Unexpected Reactions. In collaboration with University of Iceland, Museology. In English.
Museums have become ground zero in the culture wars in America and throughout the world. Once considered temples, museums have become forums for expressing—and quarreling over—different points of view. Museums have become democratic, raucous, contested, and exciting venues. Steven C. Dubin’s talk will focus on a variety of artists and exhibitions that have triggered controversy during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Drawing upon experiences in both the United States and South Africa, Professor Dubin, from Columbia University in New York, will take the contemporary pulse of these important institutions in this illustrated lecture.
