John Cage - Concert by Jaðarber. Kjarvalsstadir, Wednesday 15th February at 8 p.m.

This year marks 100 years since the birth of composer John Cage, born on the 5th of September 1912. All kinds of concerts and events to honor the memory of John Cage will be held in locations around the world. Jadarber and Reykjavik Art Museum will be included in this wave because John Cage has had a major impact on the art in Iceland as elsewhere. Cage was a philosopher, poet and an artist. He was a leader in the postwar avant-garde style and a pioneer in electronic music. Some would even argue that Cage is one of the most influential artist of the 20th century, but judge by yourself.

At the anniversary concert on Wednesday 15th of February at Kjarvalsstaðir we will hear bits and pieces of his compositions, from different periods in his career. The pieces that can be heard include works such as Aria, Fontana Mix, Six Melodies for Violin and Keyboard and Suite for Toy Piano. Emphasis will be placed on Cage as a composer.

Artists are, among others  Heiða Árnadóttir, singer, Una Sveinbjarnardóttir violinist, Tinna Þorsteinsdóttir pianist, Páll Ivan Pálsson, Composer and Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson, Composer.
