Ósk Vilhjálmsdótttir awarded by the Guðmunda S. Kristinsdóttir Fund
Erró and Ósk Vilhjálmsdóttir
On Saturday 1st of September artist Erró awarded Ósk Vilhjalmsdottir prize money and recognition from the Gudmunda S. Kristinsdóttir fund, for her contribution in the field of art. The award ceremony took place at the opening of the exhibition Erro – Graphic Art 1949-2009 at Reykjavík Art Museum – Hafnarhús.
Erró established the fund in memory of his aunt, Gudmundur, and is intended to promote and support women's art. This is the thirteenth time the grant is awarded from the fund, and women who have previously been awarded by the fund are Ólöf Nordal, Finna Birna Steinsson, Katrín Sigurðardóttir, Gabríela Friðriksdóttir, Sara Björnsdóttir, Þóra Þórisdóttir, Guðrún Vera Hjartardóttir, Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir, Hulda Stefánsdóttir, Margrét H. Blöndal, Sara Riel and Þórdís Aðalsteinsdóttir.
Ósk Vilhjálmsdóttir was born in 1962, she graduated from the Arts and Crafts of Iceland in 1986 and studied at Hochschule der Künste in Berlin during the years 1988-1994. She has held several solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions, both at home and abroad. Her works deal with many of globalization, the interaction between man and nature and contemporary consumerism. Often she uses an experiment to highlight the social characteristics.
