Curators Talk With Hanna Styrmisdóttir, Hafnarhus - Sunday 26 May, 3 p.m.

Hanna Styrmisdóttir.

Curator and Reykjavík Art Festival Creative Director, Hanna Styrmisdóttir, leads guests through the exhibition The Sound of a Bugle in a Shoebox that recently opened at the Reykjavík Art Museum – Hafnarhús.

The exhibition is a retrospective of the per¬formance work of Magnús Pálsson (b. 1929), one of Iceland’s most prolific and influ¬ential artists of the last six decades. His roots in and love of the theatre medium have informed his art¬istic output, but so has his dedication to experi¬mentation and his unfailing belief in the non-segregation of art forms. Theatre, music, poetry, visual art and chor¬eography all lie within the same experi¬mental space that is Pálsson’s app¬roach to art.

He was an active participant in Iceland’s avant-garde, colla¬borating with alternative theatre groups as well with visual artists such as Dieter Roth. A founding member of the Living Art Museum, he is widely reg¬arded as one of the most influ¬ential teachers of art in Iceland. He was Iceland’s representative at the Venice Biennale in 1980 and has held over 40 one-man exhi¬bitions in Iceland and abroad.

The talk takes place in Icelandic.
