The Art in Videy. Tuesday 18 June at 7:15 p.m.-10:00 p.m.
On June the 18th Listasafn Reykjavikur offers a guided tour in Videy where works by Richard Serra and Yoko Ono are located. Heiðar Kári Rannversson, B.A. in art history and theory and M.A. in art research, guides the tour, which takes place in Icelandic.
The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is a work by the legendary artist, musician and peace advocate Yoko Ono as a beacon to world peace. The work is in the form of a wishing well from which a strong and tall tower of light emerges. The words IMAGINE PEACE are inscribed on the well in 24 world languages. The outdoor sculpture Milestones by the US sculptor Richard Serra is placed on the west part of Videy. Serra, who is one of the most influential sculptors of the post-war era, made this work as a gift to the Icelandic people at Reykjavík Arts Festival in 1990. Heiðar Kári will discuss the works in relation to their surroundings at Videy Island.
During the summer two extra ferry trips are added to Videy on Tuesdays, leaving from Skarfabakki at 18:15 and 19:15. The restaurant at Videyjarstofa is open these evenings providing an opportunity for a lovely dinner for all visitors. The restaurant is open until the ferry goes back to Skarfabakki at 22:00.
Those who are not interested in guided tour in Icelandic can off course venture off on their own enjoying the islands beauty and serenity.
Adults pay 1.100 kr. for a round trip with the ferry, children 7–15 years old pay 550 kr. but the youngest sail for free. All guidance is free of charge and everybody is welcome!
