Reykjavík Dance Festival, Hafnarhús, August 23rd – September 1st

Reykjavík Dance Festival is Iceland´s only independent and professional dance festival and has been a very important factor in the development of the dance scene in Iceland, since it was founded in 2002.  The aim of the festival is to create a platform for choreographers and dancers in Iceland and to bring international choreographers to share their work with Icelandic audiences. This year the festival takes place in five venues, one of them the Reykjavik Art Museum – Hafnarhús.

The directors of this year‘s Reykjavík Dance Festival are Erna Ómarsdóttir and Valdimar Jóhannsson. They have avoided a strict thematic but instead a particular aesthetic of extremities often associated with Erna, Valdimar and their company Shalala shines across the festival’s programme in surprising ways. In addition to dance performances, the festival schedule includes workshops, installations and lectures.
Reykjavik Art Museum is one of the venues for this years edition of Reykjavik Dance Festival and presents a varied program from August 23rd – September 1st. Hafnarhúsið will be a venue for 3 dance pieces, lectures, film screenings and Lunch beat.

Tickets are 2.200 and can be purchased in Hafnarhús on the day of the event or in Dansverkstæðið, Skúlagata 30. For ticket reservations: tickets@reykjavikdancefestival.is or tel. 782-7242 (from 10-5 PM).
