Alexander Rodchenko and Tomas Martišauskis - Last weekend
Next Sunday the exhibitions Revolution in Photography by Alexander Rodchenko at Kjarvalsstaðir and Creature by Tomas Martišauskis at Hafnarhús are closing down. The exhibition Revolution in Photography is a retrospective of the photographs of Alexander Rodchenko, one of the leading Russian artists of the first half of the 20th century. No-one with an interest in art, political history, photography or graphic art should miss this unique chance to experience Rodchenko’s work. The exhibition Creature is a site specific installation by Lithuanian artist Tomas Martišauskis (b. 1977), which is a postmodern take on the relationship between sculptural matter and the space. Using advanced technologies he translates a specific sculptural object into various mediums thus expanding the notion of traditional sculpture. Paradoxical relationship between authenticity and a copy enables to see different aspects of the object: its interior and exterior, its sound, plasticity in animation and in the structural drawing.
